Kuna Rotary Internationali president külastas Eestit viimati eelmisel sajandil, võib kindlalt öelda, et 26. mail 2025 toimub rotariaanide jaoks sajandi suursündmus.
On aeg tulla ühiskoosolekule!
Tegelikult pakub päev rohkemgi põnevust – kõik rotariaanid on oodatud ka puu istutamisele kell 16.30 Kanuti aeda, kus kasvab juba Rotary asutaja Paul Harrise istutatud tamm.
Tegu ei ole lihtsalt viisakusvisiidiga. Oleme rääkinud, et Eesti võiks olla iseseisev piirkond, ja nüüd on aeg näidata, milleks Eesti Rotary klubid suutelised on. Stephanie Urchick on siiralt huvitatud, kuidas läheb Eesti Rotary perekonnal. Tema jaoks on olulised rahu ja tervise teemad – just needsamad, mis olid meie piirkonna konverentsi peateemad.
Kuigi Stephanie ei ole esimene Rotary Internationali president, kes Eestit külastab, on ta siiski esimene viimase 20 aasta jooksul. Minu pika Rotary kogemuse jooksul on see esimene kord, mil RI president kohtub Eestis rotariaanidega nii, et üritus on avatud kõigile.

Stephanie Urchick kohtub Eesti Vabariigi presidendi ja rotariaani Alar Karisega.
Üritus, kuhu ootan kõiki rotariaane, on puu istutamine Paul Harrise tamme lähedusse Kanuti aias 26. mail kell 16.30. Korraldab Viktor Hütt (Tallinna RK).

President Urchick annab sel üritusel üle Soome ja Eesti Rotary teenistuse kõrgeima autasu Tallinna Hansa Rotary klubi liikmele Sirje Somelarile ning Paul Harris Fellow tunnustuse mitmele väljapaistvale rotariaanile, kes on aidanud muuta Rotary aasta 2024–2025 imeliseks.
Väga huvitav saab olema ka Stephanie Urchicki ülevaade sellest, mis toimub ja kuhu liigub meie planeedi suurim professionaalsete vabatahtlike organisatsioon tänapäeva keerulisel ajal.
Muidugi räägime ka iseendast.

Visiidi lõpetab kohtumine Riigikogus (korraldab Sirje Somelar)
See visiit on märgiline mitte ainult seetõttu, et RI president külastab Eestit pärast 20-aastast pausi, vaid ka hetkelise globaalse olukorra ja organisatsioonisiseste muudatuste tõttu. Rotary International vaatab üle piirkondade suurused ja piirid – see on mitmeaastane protsess.
Uute piirkondade loomiseks on vajalik vähemalt 2700 liiget. Meie piirkond, Soome ja Eesti, on kõige suurem; Eestis on toimunud märkimisväärne liikmete arvu kasv – viimase aastaga on trend pöördunud kasvuks ka Soome klubides. Siiski on Soomes liikmete arv laiemas plaanis jätkuvalt langemas ning piirkondade liitmine on vältimatu.
Eestis ootab ees veel arutelu: millist tulevikku me soovime?
Oleme osa suurest Rotary Internationali organisatsioonist – väike, aga tegus ja kiiresti kasvav pere siin Eestis. Meil on põhjust olla uhked, et oleme rotariaanid.
Olen südamest tänulik kõigile, et see Rotary aasta on pakkunud nii palju tööd ja nii palju põnevust.

A JOINT MEETING FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS
Last chance to participate in a historic joint meeting with RI President Stephanie Urchick!
Since the last visit of a Rotary International President to Estonia happened in the previous century, it’s safe to say that May 26, 2025, will mark the event of the century for Estonian Rotarians.
It’s time to come to the joint meeting!
In fact, the day offers even more excitement – all Rotarians are invited to a tree planting ceremony at 4:30 PM in Kanuti Garden, where a tree planted by Rotary founder Paul Harris already grows.
This is not just a courtesy visit. We have discussed the possibility of Estonia becoming an independent district, and now it’s time to show what the Estonian Rotary clubs are capable of. Stephanie Urchick is genuinely interested in how the Estonian Rotary family is doing. Topics close to her heart include peace and health – the same themes that were central to our district conference.
Although Stephanie is not the first Rotary International President to visit Estonia, she is the first in the last 20 years. In my long Rotary experience, this is the first time an RI President meets with Estonian Rotarians in an event open to all.
First day of the visit – May 26, 2025
Stephanie Urchick will meet with the President of the Republic of Estonia and Rotarian Alar Karis.
The tree planting ceremony near Paul Harris’ oak in Kanuti Garden at 4:30 PM is open to all Rotarians.

At this event, President Urchick will present the highest Rotary Service Award in Finland and Estonia to Sirje Somelar, member of the Tallinn Hansa Rotary Club, and Paul Harris Fellow recognitions to several outstanding Rotarians who have helped make Rotary year 2024–2025 remarkable.
Stephanie Urchick will also deliver an engaging presentation on the current direction and challenges of the world’s largest organization of professional volunteers. Naturally, we’ll also speak about ourselves.

RI President will meet with the Director General of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board Egert Belitšev.
Topic: Support for Ukraine (organized by Gunnar Toomemets, Tallinn RC) -
Followed by a meeting with Minister of Social Affairs Karmen Joller.
Topics: End Polio, mental health, Rotary projects (organized by Margus Viigimaa, Tallinn RC) -
The visit will conclude with a meeting in the Estonian Parliament (organized by Sirje Somelar)
This visit is symbolic not only because an RI President is visiting Estonia after 20 years, but also due to the current global situation and changes within the organization. Rotary International is reviewing district sizes and borders – a multi-year process.
To form a new district, at least 2,700 members are required. Our region, Finland and Estonia, is the largest; Estonia has seen significant membership growth, and the trend has reversed toward growth in Finland over the past year. Still, membership numbers in Finland are generally declining, making district mergers inevitable.
The Future of Rotary in Estonia?
A discussion still awaits us: what kind of future do we want?
We are part of the large Rotary International organization – a small but active and rapidly growing family here in Estonia. We have every reason to be proud to be Rotarians.
I am sincerely grateful to all of you for making this Rotary year so full of work and excitement.
